Revealing What’s Always There

Painting with The River

Reflection of nature

I made this piece with parts of a broken mirror I found in the woods. I placed it in the river as I enjoyed the water flowing around the structure. I was also doing a lot of work with the river at this time. I then also placed them on the banks of the river. As there was a lovely colour contrast in the reflection. These pieces where to bring light on to the importance of nature. For us to reflect on what it does and to look deeper into it and look deeper into are connection with it.

Stitch up 2

This piece was created in a hole of a hand built stone wall. I used the long thin straw grass and crated stitch/pillars. This was to represent strength, caring and support nature provides. As if the fragile grass is holding up the stone, keeping it in place.

Stitch Up 3

This is a larger scale work created with a half-fallen tree. I used old branches found on the forest floor and placed them from the base of the fallen tree to the ground. To show support. Like if the branches where stitched sting and you pulled it tight the tree would be back standing up. The branches are holding it up

Revealing What’s Always There

I painted the beautiful flat dimensions of a rock in this stony landscape. I did this to make them more visible and to be noticed, I only painted the horizontal surface as that is what the focus was to be on. Doing this left the horizontals of the rock its natural colour and brought out the white beautifully, rising them up taller. I made the paint myself using found materials such as rocks. I grind them up into a fine powder and then glass grind them with linseed oil to create and oil paint. For the white I actually used a smashed-up part of the white marks on the road.

Stone in Motion

This piece was created in an old quarry with a fallen tree over the top. After a couple attempts I got the string over the tree and bound some stones in it. I wanted the stones to have motion as in the quarry they are all so still and rather frozen in time. The stones spun for a good while, like they were creating their own energy. The placement helped with this, the large stone nearer the top forcing another spin after the other. Learned a lot from this work and was very interesting.

Painting with The River

These works where created with the idea of painting with nature. I placed the canvas just under the flow of the water and then dropped ink on to it. This was to reveal the flow of the water. It was very in the moment work and you had to be there to see the split-second magic. The beauty is there and then It’s gone.
